    Deer and hostas

    Help!
Anybody find a method of keeping deer from eating hostas? They have already nibbled our lilies, and now the hosta bed I created last fall is sprouting and I can't stand the thought of those tender spikey sprouts getting chewed off. What works?

Here's our hosta bed as it survived the crazy 20-degree April temps we've had. The deer haven't found it yet!

I've heard of different methods for the deer problem. I know there's some stuff out on the market called "liquid fence" which smells like rotten eggs. I guess it just repells everything. I've seen bars of soap tied to stakes, but that leaves something to be desired visually.

    Have you ever tried venison?

Just yesterday I applied Liquid Fence to my garden.  It does smell bad but only lasts a few hours.  Used it last year and it worked fine.  It's quite pricey and needs to be reapplied after a heavy rain.  Besides that I think it's worth it.

This is the 2nd year I have used Liquid Fence.  It does smell pretty bad but only lasts a few hours.  It is pricey and will need to be reapplied after a heavy rainfall.  All in all I will continue to use it as it does keep the deer away from my hostas, lilies, geraniums, etc.

human urine mixed with a small amount of lemon scented dish detergent sprayed around the plants is effective

The deer found the hostas! Time for more Liquid Fence.

This spot wasn't damaged. As soon as I get the weeds out it'll be beautiful!
